Nocturne is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect through our website and the Nocturne application, how we use it, and the choices you have. Nocturne is an open-source project, and transparency is at the core of everything we do.
Website Data Collection
Analytics
Our website (usenocturne.com) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our site. This includes:
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- Referring websites and search terms
- General geographic location (country/region level)
- Browser type and device information
This data is aggregated and used to improve our website experience. We do not use this data to identify individual users.
Nocturne Application Data
User Accounts
Nocturne accounts are managed through Supabase. When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Account credentials (passwords are securely hashed)
Your account data is stored securely and used solely to provide Nocturne services and communicate important updates. Deleting your Nocturne account removes all associated data, including your Spotify connection and analytics history.
Spotify Integration
Nocturne connects to Spotify using desktop client authentication to enable playback features on your Car Thing. When you authenticate:
- We receive a token to access your Spotify account on your behalf
- We do not store your Spotify password
- Access is equivalent to an official Spotify desktop or web client
You can disconnect Spotify from Nocturne at any time by unlinking in Nocturne settings, or deleting your Nocturne account, which removes all Spotify-related data.

You can revoke Nocturne's access to your Spotify account at any time through your Spotify account settings.
Device Information
When using the Nocturne app, we may collect:
- Car Thing device serial number
- Device firmware version
- App version
- Mobile OS version (iOS/Android)
Usage Analytics
The Nocturne app collects anonymous usage data to help us improve the application. This includes:
- Daily active usage (tied to device serial and user ID)
- Feature usage events
- Connection events
You can completely disable analytics at any time in the Nocturne app settings. When disabled, no usage data is collected or transmitted.
How We Use Your Data
We use the collected data to:
- Provide and maintain Nocturne services
- Improve the application based on usage patterns
- Debug issues and improve stability
- Communicate important updates about the service
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices. User accounts and analytics are hosted on Supabase with row-level security policies, ensuring users can only access their own data. All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Disable analytics: Turn off all usage tracking in the app settings
- Delete your account: Remove your Nocturne account and all associated data, including Spotify connection and analytics history
- Access your data: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
Open Source Transparency
Nocturne is mostly open source, with the exception of the mobile app and the backend daemon running on the Car Thing. You can review our public source code on GitHub.
Children's Privacy
Nocturne is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through our Discord server or via the app. Continued use of Nocturne after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
